Algunos
testimonios nahuas que retoman la mitología teotihuacana cuentan que
una vez creada la Tierra, y después de haber pasado por varias etapas
creativas, se le encomendó a Quetzalcóatl, la Serpiente
Emplumada, la creación de los seres humanos que poblarían al mundo en el
Quinto Sol; es decir en la quinta era. Para ello, el dios descendió al
Inframundo, al Mictlan, en busca de los huesos que habían dejado las
antiguas y desaparecidas generaciones de hombres que habían vivido en
las cuatro eras anteriores. Después de mucho disputarse los huesos ya
que Mictlantecuhtli, el Dios del Mictlan, se oponía que a Quetzalcóatl
se los llevase, éste acabó por obtenerlos y emprendió su salida del
Inframundo. Pero Mictlantecuhtli, no conforme con ello, hizo un hoyo en
el que el dios cayó, con la consecuencia de que los huesos se rompieron
al caer. Desesperado, el dios juntó los huesos y se dirigió a
Tamoanchan, lugar donde se encontraban los dioses creadores.
Quetzalcóatl le entregó los huesos a la diosa Quilaztli (o Cihuacóatl),
quien los molió y les dio vida al mezclarlos con masa de maíz que
llevaba la vitalidad necesaria para dar vida. En seguida, el dios roció
la masa divina con sangre de su pene, y aparecieron los pobladores del
Quinto Sol en una cueva que comunicaba con el interior de la Tierra,
localizada debajo de la Pirámide del Sol. Así dio inicio Nahui Ollin,
Cuatro Movimiento destinada a desaparecer a causa de un terrible temblor
de la Tierra.
